D.C.'s Next to vote for same sex marriage?

Just recently, Iowa decided on allowing same sex marriages in their state, and raise speculation on who's next? On Change.org, the Capital listed as the fifth highest possibility. Above D.C., Maine topped the list, followed by Vermont, New York, and California.

Why is the District so highly ranked? Well because Change.org ranks the state on how much support the law is given by the mayor and on city counicil.

According to the Washington Blade, not only does the Mayor Adrian Fenty support same-sex marriage, but at least 10 out of the 13 city council members support marriage equality too. Openly gay City Councilmen David Catania has promises to introduce a marriage equality bill later in 2009. So while the federal government may still be on the dark side of history when it comes to recognizing equal marriage rights for all, the city that the federal government calls home may just take a step forward for civil rights.

The Orginization also mentions D.C. for passing the law. Look out for more information in the near future.

1. What were the other states judged on?

2. What do other people in D.C. have to say about the same-sex marriage?

3. When is it projected to start voting on same sex marriages?
